The Event Is This Weekend | Gold Coast Momentum at Its Peak

The Gold Coast continues to demonstrate why it remains one of Australia’s most resilient and compelling property markets.

Coming to you today from Helm on Chevron, a brand-new, never-lived-in apartment in a truly spectacular setting. It’s impossible not to reflect on the strength and confidence we’re seeing across the region. While much of the country has been focused on national sporting events, global uncertainty and challenging weather conditions, the Gold Coast has once again delivered an extraordinary summer season.

December alone recorded close to 600,000 passengers through Gold Coast Airport, marking a monthly domestic travel record. Early indicators suggest January will exceed that figure, with tourism operators reporting occupancy levels of approximately 90 per cent throughout the Christmas and New Year period. This influx of visitors consistently translates into heightened enquiry, inspections and buyer engagement across the property market.

This time of year is particularly significant for the Gold Coast, as two major national events converge. The Magic Millions carnival has once again delivered an outstanding result, reinforcing the Coast’s reputation as a destination for both lifestyle and investment. Alongside it stands Australia’s most recognised real estate auction campaign: .

Founded here on the Gold Coast more than 32 years ago, The Event has become an iconic fixture. While others have attempted to replicate it, there remains only one true Event. Auction Day takes place this Sunday, and for those who have been busy so far this month, there is still time to inspect an exceptional and diverse range of properties.

It is important to remember that the fundamentals underpinning our market have not changed. Population growth continues to substantially outpace the supply of available property, particularly here on the Gold Coast. This imbalance between demand and supply remains the single most powerful driver of price growth.

Confidence in this market is stronger than ever. Having been involved in Gold Coast real estate for 36 years, I can confidently say the belief we are seeing today is at unprecedented levels. Whether you are considering vacant land, apartments, townhomes, freestanding houses, prestige residences or commercial property, office, retail or industrial. Opportunities remain available for those who act decisively.

Nationally, property now represents an asset class exceeding $11 trillion in value, reinforcing its position as the cornerstone of wealth creation for most Australians. Yet beyond the numbers, real estate ultimately delivers something far more important, lifestyle, enjoyment and long-term security.

This weekend is not just about auctions. The Gold Coast Home & Property Expo will also be held at RACV Royal Pines Resort, with doors opening from 11am. It offers buyers and sellers the opportunity to engage directly with industry experts and gain valuable insight into every aspect of property.

Whether you are ready to buy or simply looking to understand the market, The Event offers an environment unlike any other. It is a day that consistently creates opportunity, confidence and, for many, the realisation of long-held property goals.

We look forward to welcoming you.

Australia’s property market remains resilient, with national prices up 14% year-on-year, though signs of moderation are emerging in key cities. On the Gold Coast, strong fundamentals continue to underpin performance, with demand still exceeding supply despite easing population growth. However, global uncertainty—particularly rising geopolitical tensions and potential oil price shocks—poses new risks that could influence inflation and interest rates. While the rapid growth of recent years is unlikely to continue, the Gold Coast remains one of the most stable and desirable property markets in the country moving forward.

  • A City Transformed: The Gold Coast’s Economic Evolution

The Gold Coast economy is now growing faster than any capital city in Australia, with gross regional product increasing by more than 15% between 2021 and 2024. This economic transformation is being driven by construction, health and education rather than tourism, creating a more diversified and stable foundation for long-term growth. Property prices have followed this trend, with the Gold Coast now ranked as Australia’s second most expensive housing market. However, rising living costs, higher interest rates and reduced borrowing capacity suggest price growth may moderate until broader economic conditions improve.
